Pioneering Carbon Removal in Cities

Updated: Sep 6, 2025

BwB is delighted to have facilitated the BECCS study, conducted by Airfix and South Pole in Sønderborg - a stepping stone for advancing carbon removal and storage solutions that deliver both climate impact and community value. The study was commissioned by the Climate City Capital Hub. Led by BwB and its consortium partners at NetZeroCitiesEU, the Capital Hub is helping Mission Cities like Sønderborg transform ambition into investable, high-impact projects, by sourcing public and private capital to accelerate Europe’s path to climate neutrality.  “This collaboration demonstrates how city-level innovation can be accelerated when supported by the right technical expertise and partners," comments Henrik Bøhm Rasmussen, CFA, BwB Executive Director. “Carbon capture and storage solutions can play a key role in achieving net-zero emissions in the near future, and we are currently working with a number of ambitious mission cities in the Nordics to progress their plans."   We look forward to building on this important work together with Sønderborg Kommune, ProjectZero, Allan Pilgaard-Jensen and partners.
