What is the Africa Capital Hub?

The Africa Capital Hub (ACH) is a transaction-focused entity with a mission to mobilise private, public, and philanthropic capital at scale to support the implementation of transformational environmental and social projects. The ACH aims to facilitate US$1 billion in investment for projects in Africa by 2030. The ACH provides financial technical assistance, financial structuring support, and financial engineering expertise that is designed to accelerate investment flows into initiatives that benefit people across the continent.

Why is the ACH needed?

Africa stands at a crucial crossroads in its pursuit of sustainable development. It is grappling with the ‘Triple Planetary Crisis’ of biodiversity loss, climate change, and pollution alongside striving to ensure continued economic growth.

Several issues continue to hinder the effective leverage of Africa’s domestic financial resources.

These challenges have contributed to a Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) funding gap of approximately US$194 billion. This shortfall presents a major opportunity for governments and private investors to play a significant role in driving transformational change in countries across Africa.

What are the ACH’s objectives?

  • To attract sustainable finance and strengthen local capacity to ensure its optimal allocation into high-impact projects in Africa.

  • To provide tools and data that lower the cost of capital, improve bankability assessments, and increase investor confidence in markets across the continent.

  • To leverage pan-African initiatives and further harmonise the investment landscape to accelerate the scaling up and replication of innovations and initiatives that support the SDGs.

What makes the ACH unique?

Operational DNA

To achieve its objectives, the ACH works with governments and market players in Africa to provide catalytic support for the development and deployment of high-impact projects. Its unique approach reflects its operational DNA.

This deeply embedded foundation is expressed through the ACH’s attributes:

  1. Africa Finance Framework: A purpose-built analytical tool for evaluating the bankability of projects and identifying opportunities for enhancing their appeal to investors.

  2. Technical Assistance and Project Pipeline Support: Tailored financial expertise to ensure projects meet investor criteria and deliver measurable impact.

  3. Neutral Capital Centre: Facilitates investor engagement and develops customised financing structures that blend philanthropic, public, and/or private capital to optimise project return profiles whilst maximising positive societal impact.

  4. Africa Investment Specialists (AIS): Combining financial expertise with deep local market knowledge, AIS provide specialist on-the-ground support and help bridge vital connections between project owners, investors, and government entities. Through their activities, AIS help catalyse successful financial engagement by ensuring projects are investment-ready.
