Advancing Regional Integration: Central Bankers Dinner at the latest International Monetary Fund Spring Meetings

During the 2025 IMF Spring Meetings in Washington D.C., BwB hosted a high-level Central Bankers Dinner in collaboration with Vera Songwe, Chair of the The Liquidity and Sustainability Facility (LSF) and Board Member of the Africa Capital Hub (ACH).

The gathering brought together WTO Director-General Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala GCON and senior representatives from over a dozen African central banks—including Nigeria, Mozambique, Botswana, and others—to explore the future of African trade and financial integration.

Discussions focused on:

  • The impact of evolving global tariff regimes

  • The strategic importance of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA)

  • Opportunities to strengthen monetary cooperation and financial resilience across the continent

The insights shared will directly inform BwB’s ongoing work supporting financial innovation, trade facilitation, and capital mobilisation across Africa.

“We are delighted to have brought together so many leaders in African finance for this high-level discussion. Deepening intra-African trade and strengthening institutional coordination are not just strategic initiatives - they are essential for building long-term resilience and reducing dependence on volatile global markets,” said BwB CEO Rupesh Madlani.
