BwB Associate Tommaso Buso recently attended the annual meeting of the Davos Baukultur Alliance, in Venice, Italy.
Hosted at the historic Ateneo Veneto and opened by the Swiss Federal Councillor Elisabeth Baume-Schneider, the event brought together leaders and experts from government, academia, civil society, and the private sector to discuss collective action for high-quality ‘baukultur’ — a built environment that enhances quality of life, cultural identity, sustainability, and social cohesion.
A major highlight at the meeting was the launch of the new report:
‘From Principles to Practice: Approaches for High-Quality Baukultur’, developed by the Davos Baukultur Alliance, the Federal Office of Culture Switzerland, and the World Economic Forum. This collaborative publication outlines concrete approaches for embedding resilience, climate adaptation, sustainability, circularity, affordability, and social value into the design and planning of cities and spaces.
The report also includes BwB insights and proposed structures for the financing of sustainably conceived buildings and neighbourhoods.

"A key takeaway from the discussions in Venice — and reflected in the report — is that we already have viable financial models to scale high-quality baukultur. Instruments like green bonds, land value capture, and impact investment funds are not theoretical anymore; they are being applied to align financial returns with long-term cultural and environmental outcomes. The next step is to build the institutional capacity and policy frameworks that allow these tools to work in diverse urban contexts” commented Tommaso.
BwB is proud to contribute to this international movement for a more sustainable, inclusive, and culturally rich built environment.
