BwB Vice President Christine Zhou attended and spoke at the Smart Green ASEAN Cities conference in Bangkok this week, co-hosted by the Government of Thailand, in conjunction with European Union, The ASEAN Secretariat, United National Capital Development Fund (UNCDF) and FMDV – Global Fund for Cities Development.
The event, entitled ‘Financing Cities, Architecture & Instruments’, focused on promoting knowledge sharing between European & ASEAN cities (North-South), as well as cities within ASEAN (South-South), all displaying and discussing their pipelines of innovative projects that address pressing urban and environmental issues.
The conference looked to take the first step in shifting the conversation in cities from ‘budgeting’ towards ‘investment’, in a way that tackles the challenges of productivity, urbanisation and climate simultaneously.
“It was exciting to hear about the range of initiatives presented by the participating cities, as well as encouraging to witness the North-South and South-South knowledge sharing. It was a pleasure to share some of the work BwB is doing in the Built Environment & Cities space in the UK & Europe, and we look forward to continuing to partake in the dialogue in the ASEAN region and to develop partnerships here to help create and finance bankable urban projects” Christine commented.
