Exploring Nature Bonds and Innovative Financing: Insights from BwB's Chris Smith

On Tuesday, BwB managing director Chris Smith took part in a webinar on Nature Bonds to Catalyze investments in Biodiversity organized by BIOFIN, the GEF, UNEP, and hosted by Gaurav Gupta

Over 200 sectoral experts attended from across the word. Here are some key takeaways:

The conversation was centred on the growing role of thematic bonds in financing nature. In particular, Chris highlighted the role of BwB in putting forward innovative financing mechanisms for nature to go beyond thematic bonds.

Innovative funding and investment structures present significant investment opportunities if a value chain approach is taken over a simple reliance on the existing voluntary carbon credits market or the growth of the biodiversity credit market.

Nature-related infrastructure is gaining increasing traction over classical infrastructure thanks to its co-benefits potentials, its returns and overall deployment potential

Looking more broadly at a landscape approach increases the opportunity for identifying viable enterprise level investment which supports biodiversity protection
