BwB’s Executive Director, Global Head of Gender, Diversity & Inclusive Finance, Heather Matson, and BwB Managing Director, Global Head of Blue Economy & Food Finance, Alexander Wiese, led an online mentoring session last week for female entrepreneurs from Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, and Moldova in preparation for a pitching event at UN Women’s “Entrepreneurship EXPO 2023” in Istanbul.
The session focused on investment readiness for businesses and was conducted in Russian to reduce the language barriers for the selected entrepreneurs (5 per country) and ensure a fully interactive discussion. In total, there were 1600 applicants across various countries.
Heather commented: “Women-owned and managed businesses struggle to get access to investment and the UN Women Women’s Entrepreneurship Accelerator is playing an active and important role to help overcome these challenges for female entrepreneurs in the Global South. Given our own strategic emphasis on Gender, BwB was delighted to be asked to mentor this dynamic group of women entrepreneurs who have been participating in the Accelerator program – it was a lively and interactive session and we were deeply impressed with everyone involved.
