BwB delivered an interactive workshop session co-hosted with Universidad Politécnica de Madrid (UPM) at the Winter School of the NetZeroCitiesEU consortium in hashtag#Madrid.

BwB Senior Analyst, María Belén Ortíz Torres, and Julio Lumbreras from UPM explored financial instruments available to cities and addressed their queries on how to get a project finance-ready and make it attractive for investors.

Key topics covered in the session included:

- Updates from the Economic Model

- How to use the Net Zero Planner

- Project preparation & Project life Cycle

- How to develop a business case for energy projects

- Overview of sources of capital and sector-specific financial instruments

- Case study: How do I design a PPP for an energy project?

“Thank you to all the cities that brought questions to the table and engaged actively to the session bringing ideas and curiosity towards innovative ways of financing their large-scale infrastructure projects. The Capital Hub remains open to support you in mobilising the necessary capital for getting your projects implemented,” commented Belen.

We extend our gratitude to the organisers of the event Francesca Rizzo, Hamid Yammine, and Lucia Nogales (Politecnico di Milano) as well as to the cities of Ioannina, Stockholm, Kranj, Budapest, Lisboa, Vitoria-Gasteiz, Valencia, Warsaw, Zaragoza, Pécs, Uppsala, Ljubljana, Porto, Mannheim, Madrid, Košice and Espoo for the fruitful discussions.
