As global temperatures rise beyond 1.5 degrees, hashtag#adaptation is becoming an urgent priority that affects everyone. Over recent years, BwB has been actively developing innovative financial products and solutions to mobilise capital and help future-proof our environment against the impacts of climate change. From our experience across various sectors, public funding alone will not suffice. The Adaptation Centre of Excellence aims to bridge this gap by driving collaboration, innovation, and private sector investment to address these critical challenges.
BwB’s Adaptation Centre of Excellence specialises in developing tailored, innovative strategies that enable public and private entities to successfully plan and finance climate adaptation and resilience initiatives. These include:
Adaptation planning at an entity, city, or national level
Nature-based solutions, including modelling and reporting requirements
Co-benefit analysis and modelling
Financial structuring
Private investor engagement for adaptation financing
Rupesh Madlani, BwB CEO stated: “As the world surpasses 1.5 degrees of warming, the need for finance to address the growing costs of climate adaptation has never been more critical. The World Economic Forum report published last week underscores this urgency, revealing that every $1 invested in adaptation saves $4 in avoided costs—a compelling investment case. However, public finance alone cannot meet this challenge. The role of private finance, supported by innovative financial mechanisms, will be pivotal in mobilising the capital needed to address these impacts at the necessary pace and scale.”
“This is an incredibly important topic that transcends most areas of our lives be it holiday destinations, home insurance or health,” comments BwB Executive Director Allison Lobb. “We’ve been looking at different financial instruments that could be used to attract capital. Financing adaptation investments is still in its infancy and it has been an incredible opportunity to contribute to these discussions and help the market start to grow'.
