In December 2024, BwB launched the Africa Capital Hub (ACH) to respond to a defining challenge for Africa: mobilising capital at scale to unlock the continent’s tremendous potential to lead a global wave of transformative environmental and social development. The ambition? To develop innovative financing solutions that help close Africa’s US$ 194 billion annual SDG funding gap. Over the past 12 months, the ACH has moved from vision to action, working alongside governments, investors, and development partners to turn policy priorities into investable solutions. What Year 1 has delivered: Four national governments engaged in Kenya, Tanzania, Malawi, and Rwanda – advancing innovative financing aligned with national development agendas. Six priority sectors covered, spanning critical social and climate outcomes - from ending child marriage and advancing school feeding programmes to expanding institutional clean cooking. Four transaction concepts developed and supported for donor consideration. Two active projects progressed in close partnership with governments and delivery partners. 7 high-level workshops and roundtables convened across key global and regional platforms, spanning Kigali and Lilongwe to Davos, the African Development Bank Annual Meetings, the World Bank/IMF Fall Meetings, and the African Financial Summit (AFRICA FINANCIAL SUMMIT - AFIS). 30+ investors engaged, including multilateral development banks, development finance institutions, philanthropic institutions, and private capital providers. As Lilian Macharia, Director of the ACH, reflects: “Progress in Africa’s investment landscape is achieved through collaboration, trust, and developing innovative solutions. The past year has reaffirmed the importance of those fundamentals as we work to facilitate transformative change. In 2026, we will build on our strong foundation and leverage lessons learned to accelerate delivery.” The ACH is moving from exploration to execution. The transaction-focused platform’s next phase will place increasing focus on scaling solutions, mobilising catalytic capital, strengthening partnerships and accelerating delivery across priority sectors.
