Mtanya Matuja

Vice President

Mtanya is a development finance and energy specialist with over 14 years of experience structuring sustainable infrastructure and climate-aligned investments across Sub-Saharan Africa. His work focuses on designing and implementing blended finance solutions that mobilise capital for high-impact, SDG-aligned projects across sectors including clean energy, health, and urban development.

Prior to joining BwB, Mtanya served as a Project Management Specialist for Energy at USAID/Tanzania, where he led flagship programmes under Power Africa and helped launch the US–India–Tanzania Triangular Development Partnership. He also coordinated interagency engagement on the Electrify Africa Act, which earned him an Individual Meritorious Honor Award from the US Mission in Tanzania. His earlier experience includes work with Agence Française de Développement, where he supported the development and financing of climate-aligned infrastructure in Tanzania, including energy access, sustainable transport, and green urban initiatives under the Team Europe Initiative.

Mtanya holds an MBA in International Business Finance from the University of Dar es Salaam and a bachelor’s degree in Finance Management from the University of Mysore.
