Last week, as part of the GreetGEO Project, BwB hosted an online webinar on financing waste-heat utilisation – bringing together the technical and financial tools needed to put waste heat from geothermal energy to productive use.
In the first session,Pál Kiss from Heatventors presented case studies for using geothermal energy across several sites in Hungary and presented the application of a heat-pump tool. Pal also touched upon the issue of recovering waste heat from data centres – a topic that is gaining more attention as cooling demand increases.
In the second session, BwB’s Shedrack Mwiine presented a Waste-Heat Utilisation Financial Model, an open-source, interactive screening tool that helps assess the financial viability of recovering a site's waste heat.
"Utilising waste heat from the exploitation of geothermal energy can significantly improve the financial case for developing CAPEX-intensive geothermal projects. By using the technological and financial tools presented in this webinar, project promoters can better assess the bankability of their projects," said Asen Charliyski, BwB Managing Director and Head of Sustainable Urban Finance.
