Highlights from the Second MIP4Adapt Finance Webinar

We recently held the second webinar in our five-part MIP4Adapt finance series. Building directly on the first session, “Navigating the Adaptation Finance Landscape”, this one shifted the focus to the project level. It offered regional and local authorities insights on turning climate adaptation priorities into projects that can attract and deploy finance.

A key takeaway was that bankability is built well before financing is secured. The session set out a practical step-by-step process to guide the journey:

  1. Define the problem: What climate risk or adaptation need is being addressed?
  2. Understand the size and cost: What is required to deliver the project?
  3. Identify revenue: Where can sustainable sources of revenue or value creation come from?
  4. Allocate risk: Which risks sit with the public sector, the private sector, or other partners?
  5. Define the delivery model: What structure can bring the project from development to implementation?

The session also highlighted the role of blended finance in making adaptation projects viable. Rewilding Europe Capital shared insights from peatland restoration in Finland and showed how grants and loans can be combined to support investment.

BwB’s climate adaptation work sits at the intersection of resilience, project development, and finance, helping cities and other stakeholders move from ambition to implementation.
