Reflections on London Climate Action Week 2026

BwB took part in a packed London Climate Action Week programme spanning sovereign, subnational and private capital.

ย

The dual objectives of Transition and Resilience were most spoken about, and the following themes stood out:

At the FAST-Infra Label /Pinsent Masons roundtable, resilience shifted from qualitative aspiration to contractual requirement, with defined KPIs embedded in concession and credit agreements. The caution: proliferating instruments without standards convergence slows scale. Risk assessment is a starting point, not an endpoint; it needs pairing with adaptation plans and a concrete return case.

Discussions at the EBRD Green Cities Mayors event and SmartCitiesWorld Summit centred on enablers for why institutional capital isn't reaching cities.

ย

The Sterling 20, representing ยฃ5tn in combined assets discussed, signals intent, but cities produce strategies that rarely reach financial close. The unlock is systematic investment in project preparation, not more strategy, with Miami and Glasgow highlighted as replicable models.

ย

At the Sustainable Real Estate Forum, hosted by PATRIZIA SE, retrofit finance was identified as the binding constraint on residential decarbonisation.

ย

At the DTEK roundtable on Ukraine's energy infrastructure, reconstruction finance was described as needing to move at the pace of need, not conventional project preparation timelines.

The Parliamentary Roundtable on Financing Emerging Markets, the Nature-3B project and JPMorganChase's Nature Finance session converged on the same point: nature-positive outcomes need standardised methodology and bundled deal flow to reach institutional scale, not new frameworks.

ย

At the WWF-UK breakfast on corporate supply chains, discussion centred on how blended finance structures can de-risk nature-positive supply chain transitions.

ย

Across every session: the conversation is shifting from raising climate risk awareness to building the infrastructure and pipeline needed to price and finance it.

ย

BwB thanks the organisers and fellow participants across LCAW for a week of substantive conversation.ย
