What if the obstacle to scaling urban mobility is the gap between a technically sound project and a fundable one?

This and other questions around how cities move from pilots to investment-ready programmes in urban mobility were the focus of a webinar joined by Harry Wain, BwB Associate, as part of  MOBILITIES FOR EU second Mobilities Meet Up.

Europe’s transportation sector requires significant investment to meet the continent’s mobility needs.

Technically sound projects routinely fail to attract capital due to unclear risk allocation, weak financial structuring, and design that does not speak to investors.

Under the EU Cities Mission, the Climate City Capital Hub works directly with European cities, including Cork, Thessaloniki, Suceava, and Parma, on financial modelling, stakeholder mapping, and joint procurement to aggregate city demand and unlock economies of scale.

"The project pipeline already exists. What cities need now is the financial architecture to make it legible to capital," comments Harry.

The Capital Hub supports Mission Cities across broad range of sectors through:

  • Structuring projects around investor-oriented risk allocation
  • Deploying blended finance to close the gap in public finances for transportation infrastructure
  • Aggregating city demand through joint procurement mechanisms
  • Building transparency and verification frameworks for project credibility
